If you are looking for a tooth straightening system that is virtually invisible yet highly effective then Invisalign® invisible braces could be the perfect option for you. Using a series of clear, removable customised aligners your teeth are gradually moved into the desired position offering you a way of subtly straightening your top and\or bottom teeth. Whether you are looking to just slightly straighten a few teeth or deal with a more complex issue then Invisalign clear braces could be the answer.

We are top providers of Invisalign, with Align Technology confirming that we have treated more patients with Invisalign than anyone else in Edinburgh.

Dr Ian Ollerhead is a Partner at the practice and grew up in Edinburgh before qualifying from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne Dental School in 2005. He has considerable experience in private general dentistry and his areas of clinical expertise include comprehensive restorative and cosmetic dentistry with particular experience in the use of digital dentistry and the Invisalign orthodontic system. As a result, he is one of the only Platinum Elite level Invisalign providers in Scotland.

He is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons through examination and has completed a four-year postgraduate Masters Degree in Restorative Dentistry at the University of Leeds. He is one of very few dentists in the country to hold such a qualification and his level of training is of great benefit to patients of the practice. Recently he has also been awarded the prestigious Diploma in Clear Aligner Therapy by the City of London Dental School.

He looks forward to welcoming you to the practice.

How does Invisalign® work?

We have successfully treated over 1000 patients in Edinburgh, so you can be confident that no one knows more about creating beautiful smiles with Invisalign than we do.

Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign doesn’t have any metal parts which can rub and irritate the mouth. The aligners are made from a clear, strong medical grade plastic which sits around the teeth. They are virtually invisible when worn and can be easily removed for eating, brushing your teeth and even special occasions meaning that there is little impact on your everyday life.

What is involved?

Once satisfied that your teeth and gums are health enough for treatment, we will initially take impressions and photographs of your teeth.

From these a detailed 3D virtual simulation of your teeth will be created thus allowing you to see how your teeth are likely to move in the coming months and even what they will eventually look like when treatment is complete. This simulation (called a Clincheck®) allows your Dentist to fully plan your treatment from start to finish and will also predict the length of the treatment.

Once you are happy with the projected outcome your custom-made aligners are produced in the USA and then shipped to the practice. Following commencement of treatment you will wear each set of aligners for 2 weeks. They will need to be worn during the day and night for as close to 24 hours as possible to ensure the best results.

As you progress through the sequence of aligners your teeth will move slowly into the desired position. You will need to visit us every 6 weeks so that we can check on the progress of your treatment and ensure that you are comfortable.

How much does it cost?

Overall, the cost of invisalign is not that different to traditional braces. The cost will vary depending on the complexity of your particular treatment but prices start from £1750.

How long does it take?

Again this depends on the complexity of your treatment but on average treatment will take between 6-12 months although some treatments are completed in as little as 4 months.

Does it hurt?

Although patients may feel some slight discomfort when aligners are first fitted, generally Invisalign tends to be more comfortable than traditional ‘train track’ braces as there are no metal brackets or wires involved.

Will I need to wear a retainer?

As with all straightening treatments it is recommended that you wear a retainer as teeth can gradually revert to their original position over time.

Vivera retainers are specially designed to complement your Invisalign aligner. Made from the same material they are comfortable, strong and removable. Plus you will receive a set of three so that they remain fresh and clean when used over time.

Can I spread the cost?

12 months interest free finance available.
